FOR FRENCH STUDENTS

August-September 2007 (Three Weeks)

1. Friday 31st aug 2007

• Arrive afternoon
• NIU bus picks up students at O’Hare
• Check into hotel (NIU Campus Hotel)
• Reception at Law School (light supper)
o Welcome by Dean
o Introduce student hosts


2. Saturday

• 9-10am Coffee and rolls at Law School
• 10:30am Bus to Chicago (should we invite some host students?)
• 12 noon Lunch-Millennium Park
• 2:00-5:00 Walking tour of city
• 5:00pm Return to Dekalb by bus
• 8:00pm Burgers and Beer at Molly’s


3. Sunday

• 10-11am Coffee and rolls at Law School
• 11 am Tour University and Law School
• 12:30--? Barbeque at Gaebler’s
• Evening With host students


4. Monday

• 9-10am Coffee and rolls at Law School
• 10-12 Class
• 12-1:30 Lunch at Student Center: Pheasant Room
• 2-4pm Class
• 7:30 Dinner at Fatty’s

• 9-12pm Visit Lincoln Museum and other Lincoln memorials
• 1pm Lunch
• 2pm Leave Starved Rock State Park/Stay overnight at Lodge
• 8pm Dinner at Starved Rock State Park Lodge


10. Sunday

• 9-10 am Breakfast at Lodge
• 1pm Lunch on way back (buy their own)
• 7pm Return to DeKalb
• Evening Dinner with hosts


11. Monday

• 12-1:30 Lunch at Student Center; Pheasant Room

• 11am Visit Law School Clinic

• 12noon Visit Chicago on your own until Sunday afternoon

NOTES

• Program Dates
Late August to early September
Scheduled for 21 days (including arrival and departure)


• Housing of Students and Meals

Students will be housed on the NIU campus at the University Hotel
Rooms will cost $44.40 (tax. Inc. – price based on stay of 14 or more nights) per room single or double
Breakfast will be served at the Law School ($2.00 per student est.)
Lunch will be served on campus at Pheasant Room ($8 per student)
Dinner at Fatty’s ($15 per student est.)
Huskie Bucks could be provided for snacks and meals on own in DeKalb


• Number and level of students
We are prepared to host from 15-24 students.
The students should be at least 21 years of age.


• Classes
Schedule includes 32 hours of class. Might include a 20 to 30 hour class on the American Legal System (similar to undergraduate law class or business law class – a little procedure including court systems and fed/state issues, some basic criminal law/procedure, basic contracts/torts/property, some constitutional law, etc.) and some additional lectures on topics of interest. Also might include visits to some of our law classes (e.g. a couple of hours of introductory Contracts and/or Torts). Classes will be taught at the NIU Law School mainly by professors Gaebler and Reynolds with the assistance on invited lectures from the Law School and the Legal Community.


Credit must be worked out in Bordeaux.

Exams can be given and graded either by us or by French faculty.

Reception at College of Law Marshall Gallery on evening of arrival
Barbeque at Gaebler Home
Barbeque at Reynolds Home
Possible receptions in Springfield and/or Chicago
Farewell Dinner at Altgeld Hall or Skyroom


• Weekend Trips and Field Trips
Visits to Chicago (2 day trips, 1 weekend)
Visit to Springfield and Lincoln area (weekend) possibly including an overnight at Starved Rock Lodge
Day trip to Rockford to visit Georgie Clinic
Day shopping trip to Outlet Mall in Aurora and Oakbrook (and perhaps Geneva)


• Cost of Program
Estimated Program costs on attached Excel Program for 12, 16,  20 or 24students
Additional Costs
Meals on own (5 lunch, 2 dinner – inc. 3 lunch & 2 dinner in Chicago)

Transportation (if we drive NIIU vans instead of using busses)
